The Gallery Dept. Insomnia Short is made from heavyweight natural cotton jersey — a dense, breathable fabric chosen specifically as the ideal surface for the hand-applied paint splatter that is the defining feature of this style. Produced at Gallery Dept.'s Los Angeles studio, the paint is applied by artisans, meaning no two pairs are identical in their splatter pattern, colour distribution, or density.

The shorts are cut with a roomy silhouette and manually shortened with sliced, raw-cut hems for an above-the-knee finish — an intentionally imperfect edge that reinforces the hand-crafted nature of the piece. Twin deep-set side pockets, an exposed elastic waistband, and a hidden internal drawcord for fit adjustment complete the design. The GD ENGLISH logotype is printed on the right leg.
